Future Trunks is one of the characters that has brought greater complexity to the universe of Dragon Ball. He is in charge of introducing the time lines in the work of Akira Toriyama, which, until before his appearance, was a simple story to know who was the strongest warrior.
This future warrior was not the first to have a weapon in his hand. Dragon Ball Z, but taking out Goku’s sacred staff, has been the one that gives him the most importance. Gohan had a small sword when he was a child during his training with Piccolo, but he doesn’t put it to any use afterward. Please don’t even talk about the sword in Majin Buu’s arc.
When Future Trunks arrives in Dragon Ball Z, the time traveler use the sword to tear apart Frieza and King Cold, his father. However, this artifact loses any kind of relevance the moment Vegeta’s son surpasses the powers of an ordinary Super Saiyan.
They weren’t going to defeat a perfect Cell by any chance with a sword no matter how sharp it is. But in his second appearance in the canon stories, From the hand of Dragon Ball Super, a situation occurs for which many tend to be confused.
Future Trunks and his glowing sword in Dragon Ball Super
During the fight against Goku Black or Zamasu, whatever you want to call him, Trunks’ sword glows blue. What does it mean? Does this weapon have powers?
The reality is no. Trunks’ sword has no power at all. What happens at that moment is all credit to the time traveler who executes a technique similar to the Genkidama and the power product of the energies that he collects is stored in his sword and therefore, it takes on a bright blue.
But there is nothing special about the sword itself apart from being a sharp object that if applied with force can cut anything.
