After Piccolo…everything is possible
The following article contains spoilers for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero., now available in theaters in Mexico, Latin America and Spain. If you don’t want to ruin the experience, we recommend that you go see it as soon as possible, even more so now that it has become a box office success and all the people in the anime community have been talking about the theories and information it offered.
The creator of the series, Akira Toriyama, has expressed his joy that Orange Piccolo has allowed his self-proclaimed favorite character to be on par with Goku, this new transformation plays a major role in the new film of the franchise. This new development begs the question: if Toriyama is willing to give Piccolo a much-needed power boost after all this time, could other supporting characters receive their own new transformation?
Piccolo achieves his orange form in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero by making a wish to Shenron to unlock his potential, in the same way that the old Namekian did with Krillin and Gohan in the ”Saga of Namek”. In addition to greatly improving Piccolo’s base power, Shenron adds what he calls a “bonus”, later revealed to be Orange Piccolo. It is logical to think that through this method, the dragon could grant similar transformations to other characters.
After all, Piccolo isn’t the only character who was once on par with Goku who was subsequently left behind. The human members of the Z Fighters are Krillin, Tien Shinhan, Yamcha and Master Roshi were once on par with but ended up sidelined over the course of Dragon Ball Z. While some of those characters were given a chance to shine during the Tournament of Power from Dragon Ball Super, they never had to face enemies on the level of Goku or Vegeta, but Shenron’s new power might finally give them the chance to do so.
What other characters could transform in Dragon Ball Super?
Considering that Krillin has already unlocked his potential by the Namekian Elder, it’s entirely possible that he unknowingly have access to a latent “bonus” transformation that could be seen in a future arcalthough we will have to see how the sleeve. As for the others, unlocking their potential would be as simple as visiting Capsule Corp, where it is revealed that Bulma keeps the Dragon Balls safe from the hands of villains, as well as making an occasional perfunctory wish, and asking Shenron did what she did. same as Piccolo did.
On the other hand, perhaps Shenron’s ”bonus” is reserved for Piccolo. According to the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero manga, the symbol on Piccolo’s back that activates when he transforms represents a Namekian tree, a symbol of pride for the ancient race. This, combined with the fact that the practice of unlocking potential is from the Namekians, could indicate that the ability to transform after the ritual is reserved for Namekiansa notion compounded by the fact that Gohan and Krillin are not told about the bonuses when they have their own potential unlocked.
However, given the flippancy with which Shenron mentions the “bonus”, as well as its intentionally silly name, Toriyama is unlikely to have enacted strict rules for Orange Piccolo yet. Even after his Super Hero debut, the mechanics of his operation remain a mystery. While the strength it bestows on Piccolo is no joke, the circumstances surrounding it are played out as a deliberate gag, one that could possibly be expanded upon in the future.
While the idea of human fighters finally getting a power boost seems appealing to a certain part of the fandom, Akira Toriyama probably doesn’t find it feasible. The idea may not be completely ruled out– While Piccolo is his current favorite character, Toriyama also previously mentioned his fondness for Krillin and Tien. If Orange Piccolo leads the creator of Dragon Ball to consider other characters long neglected due to new forms, it’s possible that those two in particular will shoot to the top of the list, giving the two strongest earthlings a fighting chance. alongside Goku as equals once again. .
