This article will contain spoilers for the next chapter of Dragon Ball Super, these leaks illustrate some of the events that have to do with the future of Granola, the cereal that has become friends with Goku and Vegeta. If you want to read it on your own, we recommend doing it through the service of MangaPlus by Shueisha.
All eyes have been on the next chapter of Dragon Ball Super, as with Gas’s defeat in the previous chapter, there have been questions about what will happen next. With Elec still on the move after receiving a wave of deadly attacks and his siblings still intact (and posing a threat in general), Goku and the others are far from safe. This is especially true for Granola, as after he fired his powerful blast at Gas, early drafts of the first few pages of Chapter 87 of the series (as noted by @Herms98 on Twitter) show that this deadly attack could cost him his life:
Meanwhile, Granolah suffers from the aftereffects of the technique he used. Normally this technique costs the user’s own life, so Granolah thinks he’s probably shortened his lifespan even more now. Goku’s confused: what’s that about his lifespan? pic.twitter.com/qSU7CUKuOq

The first look at Dragon Ball Super Chapter 87 reveals that Granola is feeling the impact of her supercharged explosion against Gas, explaining that the attack would normally cost the fighter their life. But it is likely that his desire has made him strong enough to resist the impact, however, it is also likely that he has depleted whatever life force he has left. It is here that Goku and Vegeta find out the cost of the lifespan Granola took for their wish, and thus will likely reveal how they feel about that cost as the rest of the new chapter continues to build on the aftermath of the arc.
Could this be the end of Granola in the franchise? As we well know, the desire to “become the strongest warrior in the universe** shortened his life span. That’s a fact, Granola can’t escape the consequences of her own actions. However, Akira Toriyama and Toyotarou’s franchise has become famous for bringing to life even villains that we thought would never return like Frieza or Cell.
The uncertain future of Granola in Dragon Ball Super
Granola is the sole survivor of the Cerealians, a race that was wiped out by the Saiyan race under Frieza’s orders. This event motivated him to carry out his revenge against Goku and Vegeta, whom he blames for the genocide of his planet, for which he seeks to obtain the necessary power to assassinate the galactic tyrant and avenge the people of him with the dragon balls. Even if this wish shortens his life mortally.
Although he was presented as one of the main villains of Dragon Ball Super, it is undeniable that his destiny changed quickly (as the Akira Toriyama saga has accustomed us) when Monaito, a Namekian who adopted him, confessed that, in fact, Bardock, Goku’s father saved him from the hit men sent by Frieza. This led him to team up with the pair of Saiyans to take on Elec, a bigger threat..
The Granola arc is completely over, but although the main fight might be over, it’s clear that something else could be on the way. If it’s anything like the current arc setup, then the final moments of this story will lead directly into what’s to come in the next main arc. It was previously scheduled to start sometime this year and thus makes each chapter that much more intriguing.
The Granola arc has reached its climax as the previous chapter saw Goku, Vegeta, and Granola working together to deal the final blow to Gas. But since he was by far the main threat in the arc overall, there are still a few things to work out before the arc can come to an end overall.
