AKKA ASP’s Mercedes # 88 will start both Sprint Cup races at Brands Hatch in first place after obtaining the two poles in play. Although the best time in qualifying for the first round was for Ben Barnicoat in Jota’s # 38 McLaren, a two-place penalty has handed over the first position to Timur Boguslavskiy. Without depending on third party problems, Raffaele Marciello has scored the best time in the second classification with a time of 1: 23.660, thus leading Mercedes’ double as Toksport WRT # 6 finished second.
Boguslavskiy and Marciello are the great candidates to beat the current champions and leaders of the Sprint Cup, Dries Vanthoor and Charles Weerts. A situation that happens to get a good result at Brands Hatch. And the truth is that the pair of the Mercedes # 88 of AKKA ASP has laid the foundations to achieve it with a double pole. In the first classification, Timur Boguslavskiy was second to 64 thousandths of Ben Barnicoat’s McLaren # 38, but a sanction to the British for hindering several rivals left him on a tray pole. Charles Weerts’ Audi # 32 was actually second, with the # 38 McLaren relegated to third place.
If in the first race the first row will be for the two GT3 that fight for the title with the McLaren # 38 and the Mercedes # 6 just behind after the sanction to Jota’s car, in the second sleeve the protagonists are almost the same. Leaving aside Raffaele Marciello and his 1: 23.660 to score pole position with the Mercedes # 88, the AKKA ASP vehicle will have the Mercedes # 6 from Toksport WRT by its side, driven in the second classification by Maro Engel. For its part, Dries Vanthoor placed the Audi # 32 in third position, in this case ahead of the Mercedes # 89, also from AKKA ASP, driven by the Frenchman Jules Gounon.
The good work of the reference GT3s of Mercedes, Audi and McLaren has moved the Lamborghini from leading positions. In fact, in the first round the Lamborghini # 14 driven by Ricardo Feller could not pass the fifth place, while the # 114 was seventh and the # 163 of Albert Costa could not pass the thirteenth place in the hands of Nobert Siedler. For its part, on the grid of the second race we find the Lamborghini # 77 in ninth position, while the three Emil Frey Racing cars will start 12th, 21st and 23rd. Difficult weekend for the Italian GT3s.
