Mr. Franciscothe iconic Chilean television presenter, known around the world for his program “Sábado Gigante”, recently revealed his approach to artificial intelligence (AI).
In an exclusive conversation with The countrythe charismatic Mario Luis Kreutzberger shared his impressions about this constantly changing world and how technology has transformed his life and profession.
At 82 years old, he remains in top shape. When asked about the current world in 2023, Don Francisco reflected on the dizzying changes that he has witnessed throughout his career. He started in black and white television and compared his evolution in the industry to the transition from a tailor who made clothes by hand to becoming a designer who uses cutting-edge technology.
When asked about his opinion on current television, he expressed his astonishment at the democratization of television production. In today’s era, anyone can have their own television channel from home, which has led to a profound transformation in the way we consume content.
His revelation about AI
The most surprising revelation came when Don Francisco mentioned having requested an interview with the artificial intelligence. The experience, according to him, exceeded all of his expectations: “She asked herself and answered herself. And it turned out much better than all the ones I’ve given! An interview done by a machine with my image and voice without me having provided either my image or my voice”.
When asked if this surprised him, scared him or worried him, Don Francisco remained imperturbable. He believes that “this is a natural evolution in technology and that eventually a balance will be found in collaboration between humans and machines.”
He made an analogy with robotic surgery, where surgeons use robots as tools, rather than being replaced by them: “Like when robotic surgeries started. People thought: no more surgeons. But no: surgeons do robotic surgeries, but with a robot. So, I don’t know how this is going to balance out. Although we cannot anticipate, we do have to be willing to live the new world”.
Despite being almost 82 years old, Don Francisco is open and curious about the changes that technology brings with it. He is not nostalgic for the past, but rather he is willing to adapt and experience the world of the younger generations. As he himself points out, the world moves forward, and it is essential to be willing to live in it.
