Dogs have it pretty good: free house, free food, free tummy rubs, etc. But for the most part they have been excluded from one of the great pleasures of fast food chains for humans, and that is gorging on cheap fast food. Fortunately, Burger King has already corrected this mistake for pets.
The creators of this product did a study to make sure their observation was true. And yes, it was: 65% of owners end up sharing their food with their dogs. The “Dogpper” campaign began in 2018 and has been resumed this year. The name is a reference to the English word for dog and to one of their iconic burgers, the Whopper. It is a bone-shaped cookie that tastes like grilled meat. From now on, it can be ordered at home, in order to make our pets happy and avoid those drooling looks.
Dogpper, a grilled bone
The Dogpper is an alternative for dogs to the hamburger whopper. It supposedly tastes like grilled meat, but we probably don’t want to check it out. Burger King claimed that these are dog biscuits made by a company that specializes in dog treats (and the fine print says “not for human consumption”).
Burger King needed to draw attention to its food delivery service in the face of growing competition with online ordering platforms such as Uber Eats or Deliveroo. These companies are digital search engines that do not manufacture their food and do not have the capacity to produce products. Burger King and the Spanish agency La Despensa wanted to take advantage of this by creating a campaign that their competitors could never do, based on the launch of a new product that solved the problem of dog owners.
The Dogpper is only available in some stores and is (sometimes) free when a human asks for a Whopper. In total, more than 112,000 dog owners have been able to enjoy their Burger King home delivery menu without interruption from their pets. In addition, the campaign managed to increase sales by 18%.
Due to Dogpper’s return to Spain, Burger King has launched a dog adoption campaign in collaboration with the national association Animal Rescue. Through their networks, they are giving visibility to homeless dogs and offering 3 free months of the grill-flavored bone to anyone who dares to keep one of these dogs.
An Instagram filter has also been launched where the more similar you are to your dog, the more discount you earn on your Dogpper cookie.
