The future of Dodge inevitably passes through 100% electric mobility. The popular American brand specializing in “muscle cars” has confirmed what was an open secret. Something that unfortunately was taken for granted. The next generation of the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger will be fully electric.
Dodge has launched an ambitious strategic plan. The iconic and popular American brand will carry out a transformation process that will completely change the firm that for years has been a benchmark in an important category, the so-called “muscle cars”. Under the umbrella of Stellantis, a solution must be found to the numerous problems that Dodge has been dragging.
The time has come for Dodge renews its product offering. All this in a context of transition to sustainable mobility. And it is that, the future of Dodge inevitably passes through electrification. Something that the company itself has openly announced since Stellantis gave the green light to the roadmap that each of its brands will follow for the next decade.
The generational change of the Dodge Challenger and the Dodge Charger
The most important models that we can find in the concise Dodge range are neither more nor less than the Challenger and Charger. Both play a leading role. However, they have become very old products. It is necessary that a new generation of each of them reaches the market. However, the new generation will be a turning point in the history of these models.
A Dodge spokesman has confirmed to a specialized medium that the new Challenger and Charger will be 100% electric. The platform on which the next generation will be based will not only mean the farewell to the HEMI V8-powered models, it will also mark the farewell to any other internal combustion engine. Everything will be bet on electrification at its highest level.
“The HEMI on that platform, just like that platform, will go away. The next generation will be electric,” said a Dodge spokesman. Current models make use of a modified version of the LD platform for the Charger and LA for the Challenger. Some models that are available with V6 and V8 engines. In both cases with an automatic transmission.
Dodge’s first electric car
It’s no secret that Dodge is working on its first 100% electric vehicle. In 2021 it was announced Dodge’s first electric muscle car. It is planned that this same year a concept car will be presented in society as a preview of the production version that will end up reaching dealers. A model that should be ready sometime in 2024.
Tim Kuniskis, CEO of Dodge, already made it clear at the time that the launch of this electric will not mean the disappearance of thermal models. That is why, for a time, the electric muscle car will coexist in the range with the thermal Charger and Challenger.
