The work done by doctors and other healthcare workers has always been invaluable. Although it has been from the current Covid-19 pandemic that it has gained great relevance. Thanks to the dedication of people like you, millions of lives have been saved. In many cases, it has been necessary to sacrifice personal time and extend working hours in order to serve more patients. It is not something simple but the commitment and dedication to service tend to be greater than everything else.
In a conventional way, patient care has always implied some risks to face. Sometimes the days lead to high levels of stress due to the high number of people who must be attended to in a short time. When this is recurrent, the Burnout Syndrome appears and that generates doctors who permanently suffer from physical and emotional fatigue.
The risk that healthcare professionals face
While in recent months the situation has been even more complicated. Now the risk of suffering from a Covid-19 infection within hospitals must also be added. In the past a study published in Lancet Public Health showed that medical personnel have three times the risk of contracting Covid-19 than the rest of the population, even if they use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). While in a natural way, if you do not have at least this tool, the danger is much greater.
To reinforce the above, now several universities in Brazil have come together to carry out the study. Analysis of the time of the dispersion of Covid-19 among health workers and the general population. The result has been published MedRxid and confirms what might seem obvious.
As part of the investigation, 8,990 PCR tests were reviewed that were applied to doctors who care for infected patients, healthcare workers from other areas and the general population.
What was obtained is that health professionals in any area have a higher risk of contracting Covid-19 than the rest of the population. While when it comes to doctors who are in direct contact with the virus, the probability is up to 50 percent higher.
On the other hand, it is mentioned that many times the conditions of hospitals are conducive to contagion. These are small places that are closed and maintain a high viral load. Even if all measures are taken and there is permanent disinfection, the risk is too high.
This demonstrates once again the high-risk work carried out by healthcare professionals around the world. In Mexico alone, the death of more than four thousand from Covid-19 has already been reported. Many of the infections occurred inside hospitals while they were carrying out their duties.
