“It’s an extraordinary honor,” said Cumberbatch, 46, who stars in the upcoming Marvel movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.
The actor expressed mixed feelings at the event to which his followers flocked. “I’m British, so part of me sees this as a difficult experience,” he said. “The other part of me is quite enjoying this huge ego boost.”
In his speech, Cumberbatch spoke about climate change, about the pain that the covid-19 pandemic caused peopleand also referred to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, calling for action to stop this attack.
“We cannot be left behind. (…) We need to act,” he said.
“Support human rights organizationspressure your politicians, the bank, the industries, to find something they can do to help,” he urged.
Cumberbatch achieved worldwide fame with the BBC series “Sherlock”. This year He was nominated for best actor by the Academy thanks to his portrayal of Phil Burbankthe grim cowboy from the western “The Power of the Dog” directed by Jane Campion.
