- The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery places Mexico within the first five places in medical tourism.
- After five months, the doctor in charge of the clinic where a nurse died from autoliposuction published a video with what happened.
- The only person authorized to extract excess body fat by means of suction is a doctor who also has a specialty in Plastic Surgery.
The work of health professionals goes beyond patient care. In addition, they are also examples to be followed by the rest of the population and therefore they must be careful in all their actions. Although most do comply with this characteristic, there are also cases in which fatal failures are committed. A recent case occurred in our country with a nurse who underwent autoliposuction and the result cost her her life.
A very important point in the field of health is preparation. It is not optional but mandatory and must be met in order to have the minimum knowledge necessary to be able to practice the profession.
Regarding procedures such as the extraction of excess body fat by means of suction, it is necessary to see a doctor. It is an intervention that neither a nurse nor a general doctor can carry out because it is exclusive to a plastic surgery specialist.
Mexico is a world power in medical tourism
For your part, it is important to remember that Mexico is a world power in medical tourism. It currently occupies the second position, just below Thailand, and there are several reasons behind this phenomenon.
One of the main ones is the price of the treatments because it is up to 40 percent cheaper than in first world nations. By using the peso instead of the dollar or the euro as currency, everything is cheaper.
At the same time, the geographical proximity to the United States causes the inhabitants of the northern country to prefer Mexico for their surgeries. In addition, the national personnel have prestige and are recognized for their work, although unfortunately there are also some exceptions that affect the entire union.
Everything behind the nurse who tried to get autoliposuction
In March of this year we shared with you an unfortunate event in Cuernavaca. Everything was caused by Carina “N”, who was a 39-year-old nurse who worked at the Samper clinic.
In this sense, on her own initiative and without authorization from her superiors, the nurse tried to undergo a procedure called “abdominal autoliposuction”. To fulfill its mission, local anesthesia was applied in an incorrect dose. As a consequence, a few minutes later she suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite the efforts of his colleagues who were in the building, it was impossible to prevent his death.
An investigation was immediately opened into the nurse who performed liposuction on herself. Almost five months after the unfortunate event, Dr. Rolando Samper, who is the owner of the clinic, published a video where he offers an explanation of what happened.

What it indicates is that the nurse attempted to perform autoliposuction without your permission or consent. When this event occurred, he was in Guadalajara to attend the International Congress of Mexican Council of Aesthetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery (AMCPER).
In the end, the lack of knowledge on the part of the nurse was one of the causes of this situation that should never have happened. Her recklessness cost her her life and is the clearest example of something that should never happen inside a clinic or hospital.
