One of the biggest objectives of any worker is to be part of a company that cares about the integrity of its elements. Although it is a noble aspiration, in the end not everyone achieves it. Only within the field of health, A doctor used social networks to make a public complaint in which he exposes the reality of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) and the treatment he offers his doctors.
Brief history of the foundation of public health
A very important date that everyone should know is the January 19, 1943. It was on that day that the presidential decree was published in the Official Journal of the Federation (DOF) with which this institution was created. With this in mind, throughout more than seven decades it has witnessed all kinds of medical feats, such as transplants of all kinds of organs, development of hospital infrastructure, and technological and scientific research innovation.
Similarly, the IMSS has faced a wide range of adversities. From wars, earthquakes, pandemics, financial crises and more problems. Although regardless of the enemies, he has managed to overcome all of them to stay on his feet.
Regarding your current job, It has more than 60 million registered beneficiaries. It also has 531 Family Medicine Units, 251 General Hospitals, 25 highly specialized medical units, 34 outpatient care units, 10 breast cancer detection and diagnosis units.
It also manages 16 eye care centers, 18,774 offices, 1,119 operating rooms, 56,753 beds, of which 35,802 are censusable, 19,18 non-censusable, and 1,933 for intensive care.
But although he stands out in some aspects, he also fails in others. It is not only about the service it offers to patients but also to its own workers. A clear case was reported by the Dr. Jonathan Rodriguez Aguirre, who is known on social media as “Your Favorite Doctor”.

Through his Twitter account he recounted his experience marked by disappointment towards the authorities. After becoming a base doctor, he had the initiative to make the fellow of bariatric surgery and laparoscopy abroad. Although professional improvement should be well regarded, in his case the only thing he got from the directors of his hospital were negatives.
After many attempts, he finally obtained the license to continue his training. Upon returning to Mexico he proposed create a Laparoscopic Surgery program in your hospital. His idea was to achieve patients with less pain and reduce hospital stays, but the only response he got from the hospital manager was: “I don’t believe in laparoscopy.”
Despite the fact that there was a change of directors at the hospital, in the end everyone’s interest is the same. According to Dr. Rodríguez Aguirre: “I realize that in the IMSS the managers don’t care about the patients, they only want numbers, they only hide the numbers that don’t suit them, they want productivity even if it is without quality”.
The doctor’s complaint to the IMSS has gained visibility on social networks. It is also a clear example that the internal environment in hospitals is not always the best as the authorities presume. It is also another story of a doctor who shares the true reality of working in the public sector.
