The new Traffic Law that entered into force last March includes a tightening of the regulations regarding the use of mobile phones. But not only that, also in relation to the way of carrying it inside the vehicle.
From March 21, 2022, use mobile phone while driving it is much more expensive because the fine has become 200 euros. In addition, now 6 points will be deducted from the driver’s license if you carry it in your hand and 3 if it is not.
And it is that the new Traffic Law foresees the use of the mobile phone in many ways, including that which is carried out with the collaboration of a support. Obviously, manipulating the mobile screen while driving is prohibited and punishable, whether we have the device in hand or not. But now not any support is worth and we tell you which ones are allowed and which ones are not.
suction cup mounts
Broadly speaking, the suction cup supports that are placed on the front window of the car are not allowed, since the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) considers that obscure the view of the road.
This is valid for any device, be it a mobile phone or GPS, and using it carries a fine of 100 euros and up to 6 points of the driver’s license. It doesn’t matter if you were using it or not when the traffic officer saw you driving.
Mobile supports allowed
Therefore, the only supports for mobile phones or any other device that are allowed since the new Traffic Law has come into force are those that are attached to some point of the dashboard or the dashboard without getting in the way of the driver’s vision.
Among these we find, mainly, those that use a clamp to hook on the air vents or any other place below the top of the steering wheel or dashboard.
Fine for misuse of GPS
Today, most drivers use the satellite navigator o GPS to calculate the most advantageous routes or to reach an unknown destination.
Many vehicles incorporate them into their multimedia device and others allow connection with Android Auto or Apple Car Play to use the mobile phone and be able to use Google Maps, Waze or Here we go, among other applications.
But the law is very clear about it and the manipulation of the screens is prohibited while driving under threat of a fine of 200 euros and 6 points of the driver’s license.
Therefore, the only way to use these devices, regardless of whether they are used through the mobile phone or the vehicle’s multimedia system, is while stationary. Enter the route before leaving and, if you have to make any changes to the route or destination, stop and do it before starting again.
For your pocket, but above all for your safety and that of other road users.
