To prevent the egg yolk from cooking, favor the closure of the hair cuticles and give it more shine, it is important that we rinse it with cold water
Did you know that egg yolk can be an excellent help to maintain hair health? Those who have brittle, brittle or dry hair can use them alone or in combination with other ingredients.
Many foods that are beneficial for our body can also be excellent remedies to apply to our skin and hair, since they provide us with many vitamins and minerals and, in addition, do not contain chemical additives.
In this article, we explain how you can take advantage of egg yolk, a food that will help you wash hair naturally and keep it clean and hydrated for longer.
A very natural food
The egg is an essential element in our diet, despite the fact that it has been widely criticized for raising cholesterol levels. However, it is one of the foods that remain more natural today, unlike other products of animal origin, such as meat or milk, which are usually more processed.
This benefit not only affects our health but also allows us to have a completely natural and simple shampoo: egg yolk.
What does the egg yolk give us?
Our grandmothers already used egg yolk to wash hair and keep it hydrated, silky and shiny.
But why the yolk? For its multiple properties:
- Contains vitamins of group B (B1, B3, B12, folic acid and biotin), A, E and D.
- Contains minerals such as selenium, zinc, phosphorus, or iron.
There are those who not only use the yolk but mix it with the shampoo. In this way, they continue to wash their hair with the same product but keep the hair more nourished.
In this article, we suggest using exclusively the egg yolk as a shampoo.
What do we need?
- An egg yolk, without traces of white. If we have long hair, possibly we will need two yolks.
We recommend using farm or organic eggs, of your choice.
The egg smell usually disappears when the hair dries, but if it bothers you a lot, you can add five drops of essential oil to the yolk and mix well. We recommend some of the following oils, which are popularly believed to have different properties:
- Tea tree: to remove dandruff.
- Mint: to give freshness.
- Orange or tangerine: sweet and delicious aroma.
- Lemon: for oily hair.
- Lavender: fights dandruff and has relaxing effects.
How do we apply it?
- On damp hair, we apply the egg yolk as if it were our usual shampoo. We must distribute it well throughout the head, massage gently and let it act for a minute.
- Next, we will rinse well with warm water. It is important not to use hot water since, if there is any remaining light, it will cook with the heat and then we will have to entertain ourselves to remove the bits of our hair.
Condition with vinegar
If we want to continue using totally natural products in our hair, the next step would be to use a conditioner that is also natural: apple cider vinegar.
- We will mix one part of apple cider vinegar with five parts of water.
- If we have very dry hair, we will add more vinegar, while if we have it greasy, we will add more water.
- We will rinse the hair with this mixture and we will wash it again with water.
For very dry hair
This shampoo is ideal for dry, damaged or oily root hair and split ends.
Once a week, or every ten days, we should also use a mask, which can be conventional or natural, with ingredients such as yogurt, avocado or ripe banana.
We can also avoid dry and split ends by applying a little coconut oil when the hair is still wet.
Other 100% natural shampoos
In previous articles, we have presented other foods or natural products that also serve as shampoos. We recommend trying them to find the most suitable for your hair:
- Baking soda and apple cider vinegar: we do not recommend it on very dry hair.
- Ghassoul: This clay has been traditionally used in the Arab countries, for both skin and hair. It not only cleanses the hair in-depth but also allows us to space the washes more and more, unlike conventional shampoos.
