What is it about disappear completely?
Santiago Mendoza is the best red note photographer in the City, but his profession has made him insensitive and incapable of showing affection with anyone. But one night, Santiago intercepts an emergency call and despite warnings from the police, he infiltrates a mysterious and disturbing crime scene. Shortly after, he begins to suffer from a mysterious illness that will make him lose, one by one, all five senses. Without knowing what he has or why, Santiago must find a cure for this illness before the world he knows completely disappears.
In the words of director Luis Javier M. Henaine to Procine CDMX The main challenge was finding a balance and the dualities between the earthly and the supernatural. All this within a story that touches on two important aspects of Mexican culture: the red note and witchcraft.
“There are several layers to the story. On the one hand, we have the story of Santiago who is a photographer and reporter and with everything that the profession implies, how the character lives with all that while he has a relationship with his partner. But on the other hand, this story also goes towards this paranormal part: witchcraft and superstition,” explained the filmmaker. “At its core, the film is a very intimate and personal drama about a photographer with artistic ambitions. Someone who struggles to find balance between her profession and his marriage, while taking her life for granted.”
Who is part of the film?
disappear completely It is the third feature film Luis Javier M. Henaineafter romantic comedies Happy times (2014) and Single (2019). The script was written by Ricardo Aguado-Fentanes (days of grace). A production supported by Moonlight Pictures, Panorama Global and Various Wolves.
“He and I are passionate about horror, genre films. We started talking about horror projects, and when we were pre-producing Single We received this script by Ricardo Aguado-Fentanes and we really liked the idea,” producer Pablo Zimbrón commented on the radical change of scenery to IMCINE. ”We reworked the structure with the scriptwriter, we added things that Luis Javier wanted, intentions that we had, references with seven and nods to the new elevated horror films.”
The film has a cast made up of Harold Torres (Silent Night), Tete Espinoza (El Chapo), Fermin Martinez (Presences), Vicky Araico (Family), Norma Reyna (Dr. Lucia), Eligio Melendez (The great seduction), Manuel Poncelis (Dream in another language), Waldo Facco (barbaric mexico), Luis Arrieta (The day everything changed), Carolina Contreras (New order) and Juan Sahagun (The Lord of the heavens).
“This character comes with a lot of risks and work to do,” Torres told Today’s Chronicle. “For me, it was tiring to be in this role because my body proposal forced me to be hunched up, added to the energy load of the character, a tired guy, with night work, but what caught my attention the most was the fear that happens in the Mexican idiosyncrasy of clashes of beliefs. They are a type of contradictions where the clash generates those doubts and terror itself.”
