Digital payments for educational services are growing in Brazil. Data compiled by Visa Consulting & Analytics (VCA) shows that the number of transactions in the first half of 2022 increased by 74% compared to the first half of 2021. The study also notes that, in the first six months of 2022, the month of June, because it coincides with the re-registration period, stood out with a total increase of 119% in transactions compared to the same period of the previous year.
The VCA survey found that the average amount of face-to-face transactions in educational services increased by 93% between the first half of 2021 and 2022, while online transactions in the same category increased by 41% during the same period. When analyzing the growth of online transactions using Visa credentials, the Visa consulting team noted that, even after the full return to face-to-face activities, consumers continued to embrace digital payment channels.
The study also showed that, in the first semester of 2021 and 2022, the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Paraná had, respectively, the highest number of digital payment transactions (including those made with cryptocurrencies via prepaid cards) in the education segment. In the State of São Paulo, there was an 87% increase in the number of transactions during the first half of 2021 compared to the first half of 2022.
“We face this growth very positively, since we know the importance of the education sector for the country and how its transactions were traditionally carried out through bank receipts. With these data, we can perceive the influence that the digital payment experience has on consumers, we see an awareness of them and of companies, which goes beyond practicality, it is the confidence to make a secure transaction in an industry that changes livessaid Oscar Pettezzoni, CEO of VCA.
