VRR, or variable refresh rate, is a technology that while many users don’t know exactly what it works for, it’s quite useful when we have different frame rates between games and TVs, resulting in visual flashes in images. In the wake of the arrival of technology on PlayStation 5, Digital Foundry has proven that Xbox offers the best VRR experience on a console, having better coverage in different margins.
Through its official channel on YouTube, Digital Foundry has published a rather interesting review of this technology, putting it to the test through different titles on the new generation consoles, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. They have expressed that, while the consoles get mixed results in tests, Xbox offers a better experience in VRR, in a large number of games.

As we can see in the video, Digital Foundry expert John Linneman has detailed the following (translated): “I would say that the PlayStation 5 implementation is a step below others. It’s passable enough, but ultimately lacks the low frame rate trade-off. That’s the main thing missing here, and all the other options make it better. It’s a nice feature, well worth having, but it’s implemented with the least amount of flexibility of all the other options available. And I guess all the other options mean PC or Xbox.”
Good news for the Microsoft console which, thanks to its powerful hardware, can provide more coverage when it comes to VRR. Undoubtedly, a technology that, despite offering great benefits, still lack of development to provide more power, especially with the difference we have between the different televisions.
