We tell you how to help your sick child by preparing a diet to relieve diarrhea. Take note!
Children often get sick from diarrhea for various reasons, from not washing their hands, a virus, an allergic reaction to the medicine, etc. However, the most important thing is to help him with a diet to calm diarrhea and prevent him from becoming dehydrated.
What to eat
The ideal foods to counteract diarrhea are: banana, rice, apple and toast. Bananas are rich in potassium, which is an important electrolyte that is lost with diarrhea. This selection of foods should be given to the child with diarrhea in small portions until the child recovers his gastrointestinal health. These foods serve to toughen stool, but it is not recommended to give them to young babies.
Lots of water and oral electrolytes
In case the child does not want to eat any of the above foods, then the essential thing is to give him enough liquids or a drink that contains electrolytes to avoid dehydration. Try to have your child drink them throughout the day. Also, apple juice and chicken broth or broth can help your child stay hydrated and stabilize his stomach.
Avoid certain foods
Avoid giving your child with diarrhea milk and dairy products, as well as fatty foods. Wait at least three or four days, before giving it to them. Other foods to avoid on the days after diarrhea begins are citrus fruits, raw vegetables, and very cold foods or drinks.
Remember that these are only very basic recommendations, but it is essential that you consult your doctor to control diarrhea, since it may be a sign of an infection or other disease that requires medical attention.
