- Fossati plays an important role: Quispe gave the key to his resurgence at Universitario
It was in the year 2020 to 2021, but the dream of reinventing itself faded in the blink of an eye. He did not have continuity and injuries followed him. Nor was it enough to play with the resume of the 2013 national championship. Last year he tried to change history again in Juan Aurich and Unión Comercio, proposals in Liga 2, but a hideous injury sidelined him from the fields.
While waiting for the latest diagnosis from the doctor to decide if he needs to go through the operating room, the right-back takes advantage of his free time to employ him as a teacher for minors at his brother’s ‘Chávez Juniors’ soccer academy. In turn, on leisure nights, and when his children rest, ‘Chaveta’ rests in the digital world of the moment: Tiktok. Now, his followers do not cheer or applaud him in a football stadium, but through the digital platform that engages the curious on the internet.
That is to say, he changed, for the moment, the ball for the mouse and burns tabs glued to the computer screen, no longer in concentrations or night trips. It is a new hobby, but also a method to generate coins. Of course, he misses his passion, soccer, which he dreams of resuming as soon as he recovers from his injury.
What is the life of Diego Chávez, you definitely moved away from soccer, now we see you on TikTok?
Now I am injured. I have not left football. Since I left the ‘U’ in 2021, the following year I became a free player and played for Juan Aurich for six months, also for Unión Comercio, three months, but I came to Lima because my son got COVID and he got very badly. I spoke with the president of the club, and I had the option of coming. At the beginning of this year I had an Achilles tendon injury, I am still recovering. I am currently dedicating myself to my brother Christian’s Soccer Academy, and I am a teacher, I have three categories in charge. I’m also on social networks, TikTok, I can’t complain, I’m doing well, and people are supporting me. There are also always people from the ‘U’ who support me and want me to come back next year, let’s see.
Is the injury serious, does it need surgery?
I am seeing the physiotherapist from the ‘U’, Edson Ávila, who has his clinic in San Borja, and he told me to have an ultrasound done, and I have a tear in the Achilles tendon, but it does not require surgery. They have made an appointment for Monday with Dr. Julio Segura, and they are going to decide if it is an operation or therapy and strengthening.
How did being a teacher of minors come about?
It’s an academy called ‘Chávez Juniors’, it’s over twenty years old, and it’s run by my brother Christian. All my brothers have their cards, they have studied, they have their titles. My four brothers took over, but one went to Chile, another plays in the Copa Perú and since they saw that he was free, injured, they told me to take over. I went as support, but since I have knowledge with children, the parents were happy, the school grew, and today we are doing well. We have categories from three years to eighteen years, also women’s categories. The legacy my dad left behind is fine, thank God.
Now you are a ranked ‘Tik Tokers’, your past in University was worth it. How did it start?
One day I downloaded all my plays on Tik Tok, and it went viral, so I decided to do broadcasts, battles, confrontations, and all the people got hooked. All the people of the ‘U’, they remembered my plays, there is also Alianza and with respect. It is now an income. When people get hooked, and ask for my stories, ‘Orejas’, Valera, Quispe, Romerito, Murrugarra also come in, they are my faithful followers of the ‘U’, they help them tell anecdotes. People get hooked, they like it. The ‘Motor’ Rainer Torres also enters, that generates income for me, I can’t complain, I’m doing very well.
How much is the income you receive from that digital platform?
You win when you win battles, one on one.
What does ‘battles’ mean?
One invites or is invited to live broadcasts, the one with the most points wins. One puts his card number (credit), and donuts. For example, a ‘cap’ is worth 99 coins, which is four soles, the most expensive is a ‘lion’, which is worth about three thousand points and is about 700 soles, half for Tik Tok and the other for you. There are a lot of gifts. People get hooked and start donating. What I have earned in a month is something of seven thousand soles.
What time do you stop online?
Mostly at night until early morning. At that time they enter from other countries, from Europe, the United States, Spain and Italy. I do it now that I’m injured, admission from nine at night until three in the morning more or less.
With which character would the most winning ‘battle’ be?
I recently had a ‘battle’ with Elías Montalvo, who was in ‘Esto es Guerra’, there is also ‘Xiomarita’, who is well known on tiktok as ‘Jorita’. Also with the ‘Mostrito’, I have added about thirty thousand points in coins, which comes to about three thousand soles a day more or less.
Will “Orejas” Flores, Quispe, Valera be encouraged to do “battles” one day?
‘Orejas’ told me that he is going to enter the holidays or the end of the year. Can you imagine a ‘battle’ with Valera, Quispe? It would be another income for them, but they are still not well informed, they are not going to dawn either, well.
Just ‘Orejas’ Flores returned to the ‘U’…
I feel very happy, he is my brother. Yesterday I spoke with him, I told him that he has my number, ’19’, with which I won the championship in 2013. We laughed our heads off. ‘Orejas’ is from home, just like my brother Polo. They are people who sweat the shirt, we have grown together, in the ‘U’, in the Sub20.
What happened to the champion Diego Chávez, shortlisted and with a proposal to emigrate?
I have always been sincere in accepting that I had mistakes, ampays, I was bad surrounded by colleagues who disappeared when things went wrong. Those people disappeared. I learned to surround myself well. As I tell my students, you have to take advantage of opportunities. I show them my videos, how I played, and I tell them to value what they have, the effort of their parents. I played in the Copa Libertadores, I came out national champion, the best right back, I remember those moments and it brings me nostalgia. I am also aware of my mistakes that he made, but I knew how to get up. In the 2020 to 2021 season I returned to the ‘U’ from Copa Perú, something never seen before thanks to ‘Puma’ Carranza and later coach Ángel Comizzo, but it was a covid era, a pandemic, I still dream of returning. Football and the ‘U’ is my life.
Is it a dream to return to the Centennial?
Many people tell me that it would be nice if he came back, ‘Orejas’ did it, so will ‘Pulga’, hopefully Trauco too. Everyone has a purpose in life, my short-term goal is to return to the ‘U’, to get the width out of me. It’s the club that I love, every time I put on the ‘U’ shirt it’s something unique.
Do you think ‘The Flea’ will return?
I spoke with ‘Orejas’ and he told me that ‘La Pulga’ is coming back for the Centenary. That was what she told me. We always speak with ‘Ears’. I also feel like it’s coming back.
You spoke with ‘Cancha’ Gonzales, Flores says he has a new love (Sporting Cristal)…
Many followers on social networks ask me that ‘Canchita’ is a fan of Cristal. Christofer is my brother, we debuted together, me being his brother, he lived in La Victoria as a fan of the ‘U’, all his life. He has spent three to four years in Cristal, it is a club that treated him well, paid him well, there he earned the beans, and he grew fond of him. ‘Canchita’ also supported me when my father passed away.
Your father’s departure was also a very hard blow in life…
There are many people who do not know my story. My dad trained me, he was my guide, he always told me not to stop training. At his wake I went to train, I never stopped going to practice, many people don’t know that I only earned $500 at the ‘U’ when I returned (2021), I was happy. The goal could not be achieved, but I always left everything.
The ‘U’ will fight to win the Clausura and play the playoffs to be national champion…
They will, you’ll see. As soon as I recover from the injury I will go to the North Trench.
Who does Piero Quispe’s game remind you of?
I know him in the 2022 season, he always said that he was going to play a lot, he just lacked continuity. His daring game reminds me of the beginnings of ‘Orejas’ Flores.

He came out national champion along with great soccer players and friends like Christofer Gonzales, La Pulga Ruidíaz, José Carvallo, Diego Guastavino. He also shared the field and changing rooms with ‘Orejas’ Flores and Andy Polo, with whom he won the 2016 Opening Tournament.
