Diablo Immortal is perhaps one of the most controversial video games in the industry. While it is true that other games have been released before his arrival that use controversial sales strategies to get players to invest real money, Diablo Immortal takes these practices to an exorbitant level.
The systems within the game are so bad that Devil Immortal has been compared to other microtransaction nightmares, such as FIFA Ultimate Team or Star Wars Battlefront 2. The systems themselves would not be a problem, were it not for the fact that several of them require extreme amounts of time if you do not put money in, and if you put it , you will require exorbitant sums, only for millionaires.
The most extreme of these is the gem system of Devil Immortal, specifically how much it costs to get a 5-star gem in the game. Without good luck, it supposedly takes over $16,000 for a player to acquire a 5-star gem, and it is believed that each character can hold six 5-star gems at a time.
However, a player may have recently discovered that the game’s gem system is much deeper and therefore could increase the amount of money needed to max a character up to half a million dollars.
Reddit user ShiftYourCarcass created a lengthy post describing how we were all fooled into thinking that an already devastating $100k was needed to max out all six legendary gems on a character. Actually, ShiftYourCarcass believes that the real figure is more than $540 thousand dollars and, according to him, it is a “decent” figure.
This is due to the discovery of up to 36 possible 5-star gem slots that can be unlocked through the Awakening, which creates more slots after maxing out at six 5-star gems. ShiftYourCarcass believes that an unlucky person could easily need a million dollars to max out a charactera figure that ridicules the previous calculation.
It goes without saying that many gamers are disturbed by this decision by Blizzard. Considering that it may be the most blatant example of corporate greed within the gaming industry to date, such frustration is more than justified, especially if this is the trend the industry plans to follow in the coming years.
