Hyundai’s electric offensive continues. The new IONIQ 6 has been hunted for the first time in the European territory. Hyundai is working hard on the development of its new electric car that will hit showrooms in 2022. A model that is set to rival the Tesla Model 3.
The process of IONIQ 6 development continues. Hyundai is working hard on its new electric car. A model that is called upon to play a leading role and, above all, help drive the consolidation of the IONIQ sub-brand across the planet. To date, development has been concentrated in the South Korean territory. However, and for the first time, this new model has been photographed far from its homeland.
It has been sighted in Europe and in broad daylight a test sample of the new IONIQ 6. Specifically, the prototype that we can see in the snapshots that illustrate this article is circulating on German roads. And compared to the specimens hunted in South Korea, there are interesting news.

The first thing to note is the fact that the prototype is decked out in Hyundai’s signature exterior camouflage. However, despite this, the forms that the vehicle that will arrive at our dealerships will take are perfectly intuited. Let us remember that the IONIQ 6 was advanced, to some extent, through the Hyundai Prophecy Concept.
Unlike the South Korean prototypes, this unit pictured is equipped with conventional exterior rear-view mirrors. Models spotted on Korean soil were equipped with digital rear-view mirrors with a camera system. It will show off the new design language that Hyundai has released through the IONIQ 5, a model that is already on sale in Spain.
About a month ago an important decision was leaked regarding the launch of the IONIQ 6. And it was, neither more nor less, that Hyundai had chosen to delay it. Hyundai Motor Group CEO Euisun Chung was not happy after testing the vehicle under development and proposed several changes. Some modifications that point to the design of the bumpers and, what is even more important, to the battery. The new IONIQ 6 will finally have a larger battery to have the maximum possible autonomy.
The release date of the new IONIQ 6
Although the original agenda has been modified, the launch of the new IONIQ 6 has been set for next year. Production will start in the second half of 2022. Current reports indicate that it will be equipped with a lithium-ion battery from 77.4 kWh to be able to approve a autonomy exceeding 500 kilometers. It is also important to note that it will be supported by the e-GMP platform, an architecture dedicated exclusively to electric vehicles.
