The circulation of the Delta variant in low-vaccination areas is driving the transmission of COVID-19 around the world. So said Wednesday officials of the World Health Organization.
DELTA circulates in areas with a low level of vaccine coverage
“In many of the places in the world where Delta is increasing, even in countries that nationally have high levels of vaccination coverage. The virus, the Delta variant itself, is really circulating in areas with low levels of vaccine coverage and in the context of a very limited and inconsistent use of social and public health measures ”. This was said by the WHO epidemiologist Maria Van Kerkhove in an online press conference.
Vaccines are clearly preventing the increase in serious illness and death from the Delta variant. Added WHO chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan.
WHO: DELTA IN MEXICO
The delta variant, also known as B.1.617, was first detected last year in India. A place where it has been devastating the nation and since then it has spread to dozens of other countries, such as Mexico. What has upset the plans to return to normal.
Vaccinated in danger?
Unlike previous variants of the coronavirus, there is also evidence that people vaccinated with breakthrough infections as a result of the delta variant can transmit the infection to other people.
“Vaccinated people are transmitting it, and the extent is unclear, but there is no doubt that they are transmitting it.” So said Anthony S. Fauci, President Biden’s chief medical adviser, in late July. “People who are vaccinated, even when they are asymptomatic, can transmit the virus.”
How many vaccines have been applied in Mexico?
