Delfina Gómez was sworn in this Thursday as the first female governor of the State of Mexico, the most populated entity in the country, breaking the streak of leaders emerging from the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) in almost 100 years.
““As the first female governor of the State of Mexico, I will know how to rise to the challenge and the trust that the Mexican men and women have placed in me,” stated the leader of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena).
His inauguration was accompanied by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and the outgoing governor of the State of Mexico, Alfredo del Mazo.
Gómez defended that he will maintain the leadership of the so-called “fourth transformation”, as the Mexican president has called his government, and, he noted, he will do so under the same principles as López Obrador.
In this sense, he anticipated that his government will work under four pillars: transparency in the fight against corruption; the inclusion of those historically ignored, as well as the consolidation of the participation and development of the talent of Mexicans, and the promotion of peace.
Within his government plan, The new governor of the State of Mexico promised legal reforms to consolidate her project.
He listed changes to eliminate the jurisdiction of state officials to be tried for serious crimes, to include the revocation of the mandate in the Mexican entity in the middle of any administration, similar to what López Obrador did at the national level.
He also announced that popular consultations will be promoted for decision-making and include citizen participation.as well as proposing that the salaries of top-level officials in the entity be reduced.
In contrast, he asserted that he will be close to the institutions of the State of Mexico, something that has been called into question due to the disdain for autonomous bodies, institutions unrelated to his policies, and even regulators.
In addition, he confirmed that he will maintain and promote the consolidation of social programs, the fight against corruption and insecurity.
“Our government will be a government of everyone under the premise of respect for plurality. “I will be in close communication with the different powers of the State, institutions and autonomous bodies to create consensus that allows us focused government action,” he concluded.
