Motive revealed full details today for Dead Space, the remake of the sci-fi survival horror classic, accompanied by the first gameplay trailer.
True to the exciting vision of the original game, dead space has been completely rebuilt from the ground up with the Frostbite engine for new consoles and PCs, offering enhanced audio, and crisp, chilling visuals that have been painstakingly reimagined for a new level of immersion and quality. Players will also find that there is more to explore aboard the USG Ishimura this time around as they relive the story with newly added narrative elements. The ship will make players question their own sanity as they delve deeper into it and begin to uncover its secrets, fighting for their survival with monstrous scares lurking at every turn.
dead space puts players in the boots of Isaac Clarke, an ordinary engineer on a routine mission to repair a large mining ship, the USG Ishimura. Inside her, he awaits a complete nightmare. The ship’s crew has been slaughtered and infected, Isaac’s girlfriend Nicole is missing somewhere on board. Trapped and alone with his tools and engineering skills, Isaac faces a battle for survival, not only against terrifying monsters called Necromorphs, but also against his crumbling sanity.
Additionally, dead space features improvements to its gameplay that include:
- The Skinning System: Monstrosities unlike anything you know, Necromorphs have been rebuilt based on the new Skinning System, which introduces layers of flesh, sinew and bone that break, tear and destroy in shocking new ways. And while strategy is key, players will also experience increased opportunities to unleash their creativity in how they use their variety of weapons and unique abilities to combat these horrific enemies.
- The IntensityDirector: The beautifully crafted and equally haunting world of dead space has made it very easy for players to get lost in it, but now they will truly feel the weight of each mysterious step Isaac takes. The IntensityDirector It dynamically adjusts what appears in the protagonist’s path, from the appearance of the Necromorphs and how they choose to attack them, to environmental effects such as light, smoke, particles, and sound. Isaac’s heartbeat, breathing, and exertion are also adjusted based on stress level to provide fans with direct insight into Isaac’s mental, emotional, and physical state.
- Enhanced Fantasy Engineering: Without weapons or backup, Isaac is forced to fend off the Necromorphs by harnessing high-tech mining tools to strategically dismember the terrifying creatures, solve puzzles on his exciting journey, and take advantage of flaws in the Ishimura’s systems. Originally featuring a silent protagonist, players will now hear more from the beloved engineer through new narrative additions voiced by Gunner Wright, the original voice actor for Isaac in Dead Space 2 (2011) and Dead Space 3 (2013).
- A Fully Networked Ishimura: From the opening screen to the end credits, players will brave the terrifyingly narrow and shadowy corridors of the USG Ishimura without a single loading screen or camera cut to interrupt the immersion. This huge mining ship has been restored for this new version with new rooms, routes and obstacles, while allowing for smooth exploration with new UI controls on the map and an improved locator.
dead space officially launches on January 27, 2023 and is now available for pre-order on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
