After rumors of cancellation and more than eight years since its previous (and first) trailer, Dead Island 2 has risen from its ashes and just yesterday, in the middle of Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2022, confirmed that it would go on sale in early 2023. The British studio Dambuster Studios has spoken to various media and has offered details of its long-awaited zombie game . In that sense, we now know that Dead Island 2 will not be an open world gameas noted by game director David Stenton and creative director James Worral in a chat with the Eurogamer portal. This is how they have expressed it and this is what you can expect from the stages of Dead Island 2.
“We have divided Los Angeles into a series of districts. Some of them are very expansive, others are a bit smaller, the one you have been able to play today is one of the smallest. You may travel between districts as they are unlocked, according to the progression in the story. There are all kinds of side missions of various different types that take place within those districts”, commented those responsible for the project, making it clear that they have opted for these areas of different sizes instead of a whole gigantic interconnected open world, following the form of games like Dishonored or Deathloop.
We know new information about the gore system of Dead Island 2
“Each district has its own population of zombies, and they are all selected and dresses to reflect that area and particularly Los Angeles life. We have a screamer who skates with a helmet. We have Muscle Beach, which is where you get introduced to a lot of these steroid-soaked guys. We’re not interested in dropping hordes of World War Z zombies from a distance, you know, it’s all about the fight and immediacy, so these zombies have to feel like they used to be real people.” Stenton and Worral. Dead Island 2 is coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and other platforms on February 3.
