The first spin-off series of The Batman already has the green light: DC makes the production of Colin Farrell’s Penguin official.
Even before its release, the vast fictional universe suggested in The Batman gave rise to immediate consideration of its expansion into film sequels and spin-off shows. And among the titles that have been considered, the first series to materialize officially is the one focused on Colin Farrell’s Penguin.
In their social networks, DC announced it as follows:
Every story has a beginning. The Penguin (working title), a new limited series starring Colin Farrell, comes to @hbomax, with Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Colin Farrell and Lauren LeFranc serving as executive producers.

Regarding the work order extended by HBO Max for the production of Colin Farrell’s Penguin, the ComicBook.com site recovered some testimonies. According to the site, Matt Reeves stated that “Colin exploded off screen as the Penguin in ‘The Batman,’ and getting the chance to fully explore that character’s inner life on HBO Max is an absolute thrill. Dylan and I are very excited to be working with Lauren on the continuation of the Oz story as she violently clings to power in Gotham,” said Matt Reeves.
For her part, Lauren LeFranc, who will direct and write the series, commented: “I have long been a fan of the world of ‘The Batman,’ and Matt’s film is such a powerful and bold entry into the canon. I’m excited and honored to continue telling stories in the gritty world of Gotham City, and what better excuse to channel my inner villain than to tell the story of Oswald Cobblepot?”

DC Modern Classics – Batman Arkham: Penguin
The Knight of Crime!
Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot was the target of teasing and violence throughout his youth. In addition to receiving the nickname “Penguin” due to his peculiar physical characteristics, his eccentric taste and the umbrella that he never lets go of.
An outcast among his peers, Penguin would return to his mother’s bird shop, where he made friends with the feathered variety. Before long, he was dedicated to a life of crime.
Violent, vindictive, calculating and resourceful, Penguin presents himself as a sophisticated gentleman, but his need for respect and power is what really fuels him. From his bombastic beginnings as the master of “aviary” crime, to becoming one of Gotham’s most vicious mobsters, Penguin stands tall among Batman’s oldest and brightest foes.
BATMAN ARKHAM: PENGUIN collects some of the best stories from classic creators like Bill Finger (DETECTIVE COMICS), Alan Grant (BATMAN: SHADOWS OF THE BAT), John Ostrander (SUICIDE SQUAD), Doug Moench (BATMAN), Paul Dini (Batman: The Animated Series), Jason Aaron (SCALPED, Star Wars)… And many more!
