Aston Martin Racing (AMR) does not officially compete in the WEC. Neither does it in IMSA. However, the presence of the British manufacturer in both championships is remarkable. While in the LMGTE-Am class of the Endurance World Championship it will have three units of its Aston Martin Vantage GTE, several are the units of his GT3 that will compete in the IMSA GTD Pro and GTD classes. Projects that require direct support from AMR, but also a list of pilots that can fulfill the commitments of the brand with its ‘client teams’.
Precisely for this reason, AMR has added David Pittard to its roster of factory drivers. In fact, the 29-year-old British driver began his journey with AMR at the 24 Hours of Daytona, test in which he is part of the crew of the Aston Martin #98 of Paul Dalla Lana’s Northwest AMR team, a semi-official structure that will compete in the GTD class of the first IMSA event. A link that will also extend to the WEC for the pilot who until now competed within the orbit of BMW with the Walkenhorst Motorsport team.
Thus, David Pittard will race at Daytona as a preview of his full-time WEC program in the #98 Aston Martin that he will share with Paull Dalla Lana and Nicki Thiim, the same riders along with Charlie Eastwood with whom he will be in the endurance classic at the beginning of the year in Florida. It remains to be seen if the British pilot competes in other IMSA appointments beyond Daytona or in some of the reference events and/or categories on the GT3 planet, all apart from his participation in the six WEC events.
«I am excited and proud to have signed for Aston Martin Racing.. My goal is to win the best and most prestigious endurance races for GT cars with Aston Martin. For this I have the platform and the perfect machines to achieve it. I am ready to take on the challenge of adapting to a new brand, new championships and new circuits.. Having teammates like Dalla Lana and Thiim will definitely help me.” David Pittard.
David Pittard accumulates a quite interesting list of winners. His greatest achievement came in 2020 when single-handedly won the Nürbugring Endurance Series (NLS), former VLN championship, at the wheel of one of Walkenhorst Motorsport’s BMW M6 GT3s. He has also achieved podium finishes in the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC), while in his first steps in GT racing he managed to become one of the British GT’s own names in the GT4 category.
