For more than a decade, the Platino Awards have celebrated the audiovisual production of Mexico and other Ibero-American nations. Created in 2014 by the Entity for the Management of Rights of Audiovisual Producers (EGEDA) and the Ibero-American Federation of Cinematographic and Audiovisual Producers (FIPCA), these awards have sought year after year to disseminate the most outstanding films and television series in the region and settle a star system that shows that not only Hollywood is a nest of luminaries.
Now, the 2024 Platino Awards promise to have a Mexican flavor, and not only because our country will host the great event. On Thursday, February 22, the different managers and associates of the upcoming awards ceremony announced the shortlists of its 23 competing categories. And of the 168 audiovisual works selected as finalists – coming from twenty Latin American nations – 15% are Mexican productions and co-productions.
“Now we live [en México] an era of silver, or ‘platinum’, which is no less than gold,” declared Armando Casas, president of the Mexican Academy of Cinematographic Arts and Sciences, at a press conference. «In the entire history of Mexican cinema, [actualmente] It is when we have produced the most films. Mexican talent is located in the world and is well received at festivals. “There is no important festival where there is not a Mexican film.”
