More than twenty years ago, the nascent franchise Harry Potter led so many young actors to stardom, including of course Daniel Radcliffe, performer of the unforgettable title character. On the other hand, a decade after he played the heroic magician for the last time, the Briton has managed to diversify his career, so that the public not only remembers him as the boy with the scar. But the vast learning and rich experience acquired in the Wizarding World films will be something that will always accompany the actor, as well as the certainty of who was the person who most influenced him during his emerging acting career.
In a recent chat with GQconsisting of breaking down the most iconic characters of his filmography, Daniel Radcliffe took the opportunity to recognize the work of all the directors who, at different times, took the reins of the saga Harry Potter. However, he wanted to highlight the name of one in particular that played a particularly significant role during his formation.
“I’m incredibly lucky to have worked with all of them, but honestly the person I think has had the most influence on me—of all of them—is Chris ColumbusRadcliffe assured.
Chris Columbus was the director of harry potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), the first two films in the series, which precisely had the difficult mission of winning over the public who knew the original books, but also the novice viewers. What’s more: the pressure was so great that Columbus came to feel that he was not doing a good job and that he would be fired. But at the end of the day, the filmmaker conceived a couple of films beloved by fans, and also left a mark on his star actor. Nothing bad.

Likewise, Radcliffe recalled that when they were filming the special meeting for the twentieth anniversary of Harry Potter —available on HBO Max— the arrival of Chris Columbus generated a colossal impact on the film set.
“Last year, when Chris came back for the 20th anniversary reunion, he came to the studios, and there were people on set running around the set to see this director they hadn’t seen in 20 years,” he said. “They remembered him and he remembered them. There are so few people in the industry who can inspire that in people. The production teams on the first two Harry Potter films would have followed Chris Columbus to hell.”
And I add:
“We loved him so much and I think a lot of his enthusiasm to be on set is where I got mine from. The reason I think I love the job so much is largely because of him.”
We will see Daniel Radcliffe soon in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, an original production of The Roku Channel. Its premiere on this platform streaming will happen on November 4, 2022.
Antonio G. Spindola I have very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
