GT vehicle races have become a recurring destination for riders who end their career in MotoGP. For example, Valentino Rossi, present in the WRT Team to compete with one of his Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo II the entire season of the GT World Challenge Europe. And to confirm this trend, one of his great rivals. Dani Pedrosa will also make the leap to four wheels to compete in the Lamborghini Super Trofeoa mono-brand series of great prestige in Europe.
Specifically, Pedrosa will be at the controls of one of the three Lamborghini Super Trofeo Evo2 of the Orange1 FFF Racing teamstructure of Chinese origin but with great prestige and ascendancy within GT racing. The still KTM test rider will compete alongside the Swiss Antonin Borga. A totally new experience for a rider who has contested a total of 296 Grand Prix in the Motorcycle World Championship and has a record of 54 victories, 153 podiums and three World Championship titles. Borga has a long history in prototypes and GT vehicles.
The duo formed by Pedrosa and Antonin will carry out the official pre-season test first of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo in Imola, a test session that will take place on March 29. Later, the # 26 and his partner -although in this case they will wear the number 29- will compete on the Imola circuit itself. The other two tests on the former MotoGP rider’s part program include Misano and Algarve, within the calendar of six appointments that make up the Lamborghini Super Trofeo this season. The category in which they will be registered is yet to be determined.
With this partial program, Dani Pedrosa follows in the footsteps of other motorcycle riders who have passed through the Lamborghini Super Trofeo like Andrea Dovizioso, Didier de Radigues, Chad Reed or Tony Cairioli: «I am very happy to start this new adventure with Lamborghini and the FFF Racing Team. It’s my first experience on four wheels and although I still have a lot to learn, I feel very excited.. I can’t wait to learn all the tricks of the trade and start putting my best foot forward. Hope is to have fun.”
Antonin BorgaDani Pedrosa’s partner in this new adventure on four wheels, has also been enthusiastic about the project and the option of competing alongside the MotoGP rider: «I am very excited for this new experience. I have raced in endurance, in the LMP2 class, in the past and this will be my first time driving a Super Trophy. I am very happy to have the opportunity to be in the FFF Racing team with Dani. Obviously, I hope everything goes well and that we have a great time racing together.”
