Finally, the much talked about spin-off of Spider-Man focused on Madame Web, has found its main protagonist in Dakota Johnson.
The cinematic Spider-Verse continues to grow. This time, actress Dakota Johnson joins her ranks to play Madame Webb in her own movie, according to Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter.
The project by SJ Clarkson, with a screenplay by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless, will adapt the story of the character who debuted in 1980’s The Amazing Spider-Man #210. As read on Deadline: “Dakota Johnson is in talks to star in the Sony’s Madame Web movie… In the comics, Madame Web is an old lady with myasthenia gravis, so she’s hooked up to a life support system that looks like a spider’s web. Due to her age and her medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains. For that reason, sources have stressed that it’s possible the project will turn her into something else.”
Madame Web is a clairvoyant specialized in predicting the future of arachnid superheroes, having been a mentor to Peter Parker’s alter ego and to the various Spider-Womans.
Dakota Johnson is known for the Fifty Shades of Gray franchise. She has also participated in independent projects such as Am I Ok? and Cha Cha Real Smooth, both produced by herself under her TeaTime brand.
In addition to the Spider-Man cinema, Madame Web will join the already released Venom and the next Morbius.
