This week everyone has been talking about the big release of Open AI research organization dedicated to advancing artificial intelligence. One of the tools they have developed is ChatGPT a state-of-the-art natural language processing model capable of generating human-like text in real time. But of its benefits and its detractors who have called it “Pandora’s box”, I will write my analysis in the next column.
In this space I want to insist on the issue of Cybersecurity, I received the most recent survey from the Mx Internet Association, where they provide us with data on the issue of Cybersecurity in Mexico, for example, from January 2019 to April 2022, The General Scientific Directorate of the National Guard handled more than 5,800 investigations for cybercrimes, such as threats, fraud, human trafficking, and possession or distribution of child pornography.
The largest proportion of users (90.6%) mention that they are concerned about cybersecurity, in Mexico, there is a low culture for crime prevention, the same behavior that we have taken to the digital plane, only half of the users consider that their devices are protected against cybersecurity risks.
The biggest concern of Internet users is fraud and financial loss, followed by identity theft and in third place is the loss of information. They are followed in order of importance by leakage of sensitive information, Ransomwareand be a victim of Phishing. It is a fact that criminals are migrating to the world of cybercrime that implies less risk and greater profit for them, 22.1 percent of Internet users have been victims of some kind of vulnerability in the last 12 months. 1 in 3 victims has suffered from identity theft, which can lead to other types of legal problems, such as facing lawsuits, filing lawsuits, etc.
Some measures to navigate more securely are that the basic passwords are changed frequently and that they are complex. Update operating system software, invest in good antivirus systems that are original brands, and with guarantees, use antimalware software, do not connect to public networks, do not open unknown emails, back up your information on external media such as USB or hard drives , and in the cloud if you have “keys” security, among other actions.
For all those lovers of selfies, This information provided by the Mx Internet Association is important, 2 out of 10 Internet users mention that someone else has shared photographs or videos where it appears, without their consent, 14.7% of users have practiced it and in the In the last 12 months, approximately 1 in 10 Internet users have asked them to send this type of content. Photographs are an important part of identity theft.
Some conclusions of the survey are: 50.0 percent of users consider that their equipment is not protected against the threats presented by the use of the Internet, the biggest concern of Internet users is fraud and financial loss, in addition to 22.1 percent. percent of users was the victim of a breach in the last 12 months, mainly loss of information, fraud and financial losses, 31.7 percent of the people surveyed use their personal equipment for company activities, 3.4 percent of people do not update your anti-malware software, or encrypt your computers or mobile phones. Users consider that what exposes users the most is sharing or publishing personal data.
Shocking numbers of cybersecurity, or rather the absence of security in Mexico on the Internet.
