With the above in mind, today the general director of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), Zoé Robledo, announced the details of the contract. He indicated that a total of 641 medical specialists from Cuba will join the Health Plan for Well-being. Of that number there are 115 that are already in our country. They were all sent to Colima and Nayarit to strengthen care for the population without social security and living in remote areas.
What specialties are Cuban doctors?
He also noted that of these 115 Cuban medical specialists, 40 are women and 75 men. While they all belong to 15 specialties classified as high demand: 31 Internal Medicine, 31 Pediatrics, 24 General Surgery, seven Gynecology and Obstetrics.
In addition, four from Emergencies, three from Intensive Care, five from Imaging, two from Anesthesiology, two from Nephrology and one from Angiology and Vascular Surgery, Dermatology, Hematology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Orthopedics and Traumatology, as well as Otorhinolaryngology.
Zoé Robledo specified that for Colima, 55 specialists were assigned and in Nayarit there are 60. All doctors have revalidation of studies by the SEP and Social Security determined the IMSS-Wellness hospitals where they will provide their services and which can also be rotated based on need.

He informed that in Colima the Cuban doctors will operate in the hospitals in Manzanillo, Tecomán, Ixtlahuacán, Regional Universitario, Materno Infantil and the Specialized Hemodialysis Unit.
In Nayarit, he indicated that they will work in seven hospitals: Rosamorada, Santiago Ixcuintla, Tepic, Las Varas (Compostela), Ixtlán del Río, Puente de Camotlán and in the Jesús María Mixed Hospital.
The general director of Social Security pointed out that in view of the structural problem of the lack of specialists, the Mexican government joined forces with the Cuban Ministry of Health, through the Cuban Medical Services Agencywhich has 12 years of experience in hospital medical care in countries such as China, Italy, Panama, South Africa, Turkey and Vietnam.
