The legendary creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto turned 48 today, at least according to the information provided to the global network P2P Foundation upon registration.
Although the identity of the creator of Bitcoin (BTC) and therefore his birthday remain unknown to the public, cryptocurrency enthusiasts took note of when Satoshi’s age increased by one year on his P2P Foundation profile – what which suggests a birthday of April 5, 1975. Cryptocurrency users have suggested that the date – as Satoshi may represent a group of people rather than an individual – may come from a day in 1933 when the President of the United States United States Franklin Delano Roosevelt began to take the country off the gold standard, issuing an executive order that all US citizens return gold coins and gold certificates worth more than $100 to the Federal Reserve.
Speculating about the true identity of the person or people who helped create the original cryptocurrency has been a popular pastime among many users on social media and online forums. Among the names proposed are the computer scientist and creator of “Bit Gold” Nick Szabo, Hal Finney, one of the first collaborators of BTC -unfortunately he died in 2014-, the cryptographer Adam Back and the American engineer and physicist of Japanese origin Dorian Nakamoto .
