Prior to the premiere of Cruella, several reports indicated that Craig Gillespie and Tony McNamara, director and screenwriter respectively of this film, were already working on a sequel. However, it was unknown at the time if Emma Stone, who plays the title character, was going to return. Fortunately, speculation can be stopped, as Cruella 2 it is a reality, and Stone will participate in the project.
According to Variety, Patrick Whitesell, Endeavor CEO, has confirmed that Emma Stone will reprise the role of Cruella de Vil in a sequel to the film that we saw a few weeks ago in theaters and on Disney +. Here’s what Whitesell had to say about it:
“While the media landscape has altered significantly for all distributors, their creative partners cannot stand aside to bear a disproportionate amount of downside without the potential for profit.
This agreement demonstrates that there can be an equitable path forward that protects artists and aligns studio interests with talent. We are proud to work alongside Emma and Disney, and we appreciate the studio’s willingness to recognize their contributions as a creative partner. We hope this opens the door for more members of the creative community to participate in the success of the new platforms. “
This information arises amid a legal dispute between Scarlett Johansson and Disney over the simultaneous release of Black widow in theaters and Disney +, something that also happened with Cruella. After this lawsuit was made known, some rumors indicated that Stone would follow the path of his partner, and sue the mouse company. But nevertheless, this new information seems to indicate that this will not be the case.
There is no release date yet for Cruella 2. On related issues, the CEO of Disney defends the premiere of Black widow on your streaming service. Similarly, Disney + already exceeds 116 million users.
