The Covid and influenza vaccine Is it aimed at pregnant women and children? This is one of the questions that arises among internet users at the start of the National Vaccination Campaign against influenza and Covid-19 for the 2023-2024 winter season, in medical units in the country.
The federal Ministry of Health reported that the goal is to supply 54.6 million doses, of which 35.2 million are against influenza and 19.4 million are anti-COVID
Covid and influenza vaccine in CDMX
Starting this October 16, 2023, the Ministry of Health of Mexico City starts the vaccination days against influenza and Covid-19 in CDMX.
Where?
On this occasion, the vaccines will be applied in 230 health centers in Mexico City, as well as in the entire network of clinics of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS), IMSS-Bienestar, and the Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE).
The vaccination campaign will be carried out in a decentralized manner at multiple points of care to facilitate access for the population.
Should pregnant women and children be vaccinated?
Yes. For children from six to 59 months (under 6 years of age) they will only receive the seasonal influenza vaccine.
Who should be vaccinated?
These vaccines are aimed at people with vulnerable conditions, such as older adults, pregnant women, or people with diseases that predispose them to serious complications.
The flu vaccine protects against severe forms of four subtypes of the virus, while the Abdala and Sputnik V vaccines will be administered to reduce the risk of developing severe forms of Covid-19.
These vaccines have been approved by the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris).
The initiative aims to reduce the risk of hospitalizations and deaths from these diseases in people in vulnerable situations.
The target population can go to the vaccination centers, the closest health units of health institutions, such as the IMSS, IMSS-Bienestar, ISSSTE, PetrĂ³leos Mexicanos (Pemex) units or state health services to receive the vaccines against influenza and COVID-19.
