Why is Disney’s “Cousins” being heavily criticized?
“How many filters did this go through? Didn’t anyone warn that it’s wrong to say ‘Hey, cousins’? Didn’t anyone think it was strong to put ‘Terremoto Springs’ (sic) to a Latino city? I am not usually offended by these things, but… even the name of a character has a sexual connotation in some countries, ”said the voice actor Ale Graue on his social networks.
Opinion that seems to agree with the majority of the public, who highlight the use of generic names such as ‘Nacho’ or ‘Cuquita’, in addition to the fact that the series seems to be told from the American perspective of Latinos, and that it is not a correct representation of Our culture.
Natasha Klein, creator and producer of this series, has stated that it was based on her own childhood experiences, as she comes from a multicultural Mexican-American family.

“Everything I do goes through this lens, it’s the culture I grew up in, it’s my family culture, it was all over the place where I grew up, so everything I do is influenced by it. Every note I took, every scene I did, is inspired by who I am and the culture in which I grew up,” explained the creator of this cartoon.
“Cousins” still does not have a release date, but it is expected that it can be seen on Disney Channel and Disney + this year.
