Although Twitch was originally conceived as a live streaming medium for video games, the popular platform has become home to a wide variety of content. Everything from broadcasts of classic TV shows like Pokémon and The Joy of Painting to live NFL games have been broadcast on Twitch.
Among the variety of content, “IRL” broadcasts have become increasingly popular with streamers that record your daily life or your adventures in the real world. And now, a couple of users have been stranded at sea while transmitting.
The couple, Awkwards_Travel, known as Tallulah and Gaspard, have been documenting their journey across the Mediterranean by sailboat for the past month and a half, departing from Greece on May 10. The pair’s Twitch streams have shown their visits to various locations in Europe, including Sicily and Naples, with the pair livestreaming for several hours while sailing. Now, however, the stream Awkwards_Travel’s most recent report reveals that the couple was stranded at sea.
A stream Friday’s IRL That Has Already Been Removed From The Couple’s Channel Details Events That Would See Awkwards_Travel stranded. Following a dive session, Tallulah noticed an unexplained drop of needles on the boat’s dashboard, causing the boat to shut down. The errant winds nearly caused the two’s boat to collide with a shipwreck they had previously explored, leaving the two trapped at sea for nearly four hours before the pair ended the broadcast.
Awkwards_Travel has not gone live on Twitch since the incident, though Tallulah later confirmed that they were fine via Twitter. Although the video has since been removed from Twitch, Tallulah closed the stream with a plan for viewers of it. Help was reported to arrive an hour after the end of the broadcast and Tallulah said the channel would be live again when they were safe. Gaspard was more shocked by the situation, stating that he did not want to get on another ship after the harrowing experience.
