For just over two years, the world has been in the midst of a severe health crisis. So far 401 million cases have been confirmed and the number is increasing every day. But one of the favorable news is that a relative control seems closer and closer. To avoid more deaths, there are some countries where the Covid-19 vaccine is mandatory. It is a controversial decision because to date there are people who oppose this measure because they consider that it violates their human rights.
Now, a very important point is the position that each country has taken with respect to the biologicals of all pharmaceutical companies. The general opinion is that everyone should receive the vaccine according to national schedules. Although there are also some cases where it is not only a recommendation but an obligation.
In that sense, just on February 4, Austria became the second nation in Europe to make vaccination compulsory for the entire adult population. While the Vatican was the first on the continent, imposing it on its nearly 800 residents and workers since October 2021.
Other countries where the Covid-19 vaccine is mandatory are Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Micronesia, Indonesia and Malaysia.
Countries where it only applies to certain sectors
Other countries have chosen to impose vaccination on certain age groups instead of a general obligation. In most cases, this measure is aimed at older people, who are more vulnerable to the virus, as in Italy and Greece. In Costa Rica, on the other hand, since last November vaccination for children between five and 11 years of age is mandatory.
In addition to these countries, a further twenty have made vaccination compulsory for certain socio-professional categories and/or impose restrictions that can resemble a quasi-obligation. This is the case in countries such as Germany or France, where vaccination is mandatory to access various places open to the public, such as cinemas, museums, cafes and restaurants.
For its part, there are also cases where the vaccine against Covid-19 is mandatory but partially. In the case of the United Kingdom and Italy, it was determined that all health professionals must be vaccinated in order to continue caring for patients. While just a few days ago France and Greece joined this measure.
In contrast, in Russia, immunization is also compulsory, although only for employees in the service sector. While the governor of San Francisco, in the United States, announced at the end of June that he would require the vaccination of all his public employees, although in the rest of the country it has not been reported if the same determination will be followed.
In Mexico the vaccine is not mandatory
Finally, in the case of Mexico, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has ruled out making the Covid-19 vaccine mandatory. On multiple occasions, he has pointed out that each person’s decision must be respected, although he recommends that everyone go when it is their turn to receive the biological. With this they not only protect themselves but also their entire environment.
