Of all alcohol-attributable deaths, 28% were due to injuries, such as those caused by traffic accidents, self-harm, and interpersonal violence; 21% to digestive disorders; 19% to cardiovascular diseases, and the rest to infectious diseases, cancers, mental disorders and other conditions.
Despite some positive global trends in the prevalence of episodic heavy drinking and the number of alcohol-related deaths since 2010, the global burden of disease and injury from the harmful use of alcohol is unacceptably high, particularly in the European Region and the Region of the Americas.
World consumption is expected to increase in the next 10 years
