The current Covid-19 pandemic has caused great damage among the population. Although it is not all about the physical part because it is also, in part, responsible for a mental health crisis that is spreading throughout the world. Aspects such as isolation and the permanent fear of getting infected have caused severe effects in most of the people. That is why disorders such as stress, depression and anxiety have increased exponentially in recent months.
Impacts among health professionals
Only at the end of last year did the UK Medical Association (BMA) conducted a study on the health status of medical personnel. Through a survey, the information of 6,610 doctors in England who treat Covid-19 patients was gathered. Of these, two-fifths stated that their mental health today is worse than before the current health crisis.
For their part, it was found that 43 percent currently suffer from depression, anxiety, stress, exhaustion, emotional distress or another work-related mental health condition.
The above is only a reflection of the situation that exists in the entire world population. In addition, all problems related to mental health are quite difficult to attend to because in many cases the affected people do not recognize their condition and refuse to consult a specialist for help.
No one is safe
In the same way, it should be considered that no one is exempt from suffering from discomforts such as stress, depression and anxiety. They can be presented to anyone regardless of age, profession, economic condition or any other parameter.
About, Global Consumer Survey carried out a global analysis to determine the percentage of inhabitants of each country that is affected. One of the biggest surprises is to observe that in the first position is Sweden, where 46 percent of the population admit to having had mental health problems during the last 12 months. Although it is one of the nations that has best handled the health emergency, it has not prevented the concern from spreading to the citizens.
For its part, slightly lower is the United States, where 42 percent of the people interviewed declared having experienced depression, stress or anxiety over the last year. While in the same analysis, Mexico appears where 28 percent of the population acknowledges having suffered from this type of disorder.
However, all this acquires great relevance because mental health problems that are not addressed can suffer fatal consequences. Sometimes the affected people make decisions such as committing suicide and that is something that must be prevented.
