The problem that seemed controlled in our country is now back. This is the pandemic and in recent years there has been a worrying increase in the number of new cases per day. Right now you live fifth wave of Covid-19 and the true scope of the problem is not yet known. For the same reason, an aspect of great importance for your safety is knowing how to avoid contagion within the doctor’s office.
In this sense, your work is fundamental, but you should never make the mistake of sacrificing your integrity for that of the patients. Both are equally important and, in fact, you need to be in perfect condition to be able to attend to others. Otherwise, a vicious circle is generated in which everyone is affected.
With this in mind, hospitals are spaces in which special attention must be paid. Naturally, every day they receive sick people and that leaves doctors exposed. For this reason, one of the first aspects that must change is hygiene and cleanliness. All common areas must be constantly disinfected. While the office door should remain open as long as possible to allow natural ventilation.
Now, to avoid contagion within the medical office, the National Medical Arbitration Commission (Conamed) published a guide with some basic indications. These are recommendations that health professionals must follow for their own safety.
What is Conamed?
It is the instance that is responsible for resolving in a friendly way and in good faith any conflict between doctors and patients. It also promotes and encourages a good relationship, dignified treatment, values, adherence to the medical lex artis and ethics in the doctor-patient relationship.
It is a specialized authority that has technical autonomy and is empowered to receive complaints, investigate alleged irregularities in the provision of medical services, and issue its opinions, agreements, and awards, which make it possible to resolve conflicts by acting with impartiality, confidentiality, and respect.

The Conamed it also focuses on strengthening the knowledge of doctors so that they can offer quality care. With this in mind, the tips to avoid infections within the doctor’s office are the following.
- Do not use a handshake as a greeting. If required, the forearm shock should be chosen.
- Postpone, as much as possible, very crowded meetings.
- Staff who have contact with patients with respiratory infections at home must notify Human Resources and stay home.
- Limit the handling and distribution of food in the workplace.
- In case of coughing and/or sneezing, cover the nose and mouth with a disposable handkerchief or use the inner corner of the elbow.
- Hand hygiene at the entrance to the building and at the exit of the elevators on each floor.
- Avoid touching wet surfaces of the face.
- Regularly disinfect high-touch surfaces.
- Try to hold meetings with external groups via videoconference.
- Maintain constant hand washing with soap and water.
- Consider opening windows and adjusting the air conditioning.
- Assess travel risks for staff leaving commission.
