There are authorities that all health professionals should know because they have a direct relationship with their work. Within the list is theNational Medical Arbitration Commission (Conamed) but not only advises graduates but also young people who barely have the degree of intern. In fact, one of its many functions is to support students so that they successfully complete their training.
Brief history of Conamed
Before moving forward, it is necessary to remember that Conamed is a decentralized body of the Ministry of Health (SSa). It was created by presidential decree, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on June 3, 1996, to help protect the right to health protection as well as improve the quality of medical services.
With this in mind, it is an institution that aims to contribute to resolve amicably and in good faith the conflicts arising between the users of medical services and their providers. It also promotes and encourages a good relationship, dignified treatment, values, adherence to the medical lex artis and ethics in the doctor-patient relationship.
For this reason, it is a specialized body that has technical autonomy and is empowered to receive complaints, investigate alleged irregularities in the provision of medical services and issue their opinions, agreements and awards. All of the above allows conflicts to be resolved by acting with impartiality, confidentiality and respect, through alternative procedures for conflict resolution such as: guidance, immediate management, conciliation and arbitration.
Support for future health professionals
On the other hand, it was recently announced that the intern Ivonne Espinoza Sánchez, who carried out her social service at CONAMED under the tutelage of Dr. Fernando Meneses González and Dr. David Gabriel Luna Pérez, carried out her professional exam virtually. Her story had a favorable outcome, so she obtained a Nursing degree from the Zaragoza Faculty of Higher Studies of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). She was also recognized with an honorable mention.
In her professional exam, she defended a case study product of her research actions carried out at CONAMED entitled “Nursing Management in complications of arteriovenous fistula for hemodialysis”, which can be consulted in CONAMED Magazine vol. 26. No. 1, corresponding to the year 2021.
In this way, CONAMED strengthens its role as a guide for those interns who perform their social service in the institution. At the same time, it contributes to the development of material of interest to health professionals.
another success story
In addition, it is not a unique case because just a few weeks ago another similar case was revealed. We are referring to Itzel Betzabeth Sanabria Landeros, who also did her social service at CONAMED. From that moment on, he learned about all the work carried out by the Commission in the first person.
As part of his stay, he prepared and published the article “Suicidal risk in students in the health area in the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. Transversal study”. The same investigation of hers served to be defended as part of his professional examination at the Zaragoza Faculty of Higher Studies of the UNAM.
This article was published in CONAMED Magazine and is available for consultation in Vol. 26 No. 4, 2021.
Although she is the lead author, the other co-authors were Dr. David Gabriel Luna Pérez, Dr. Carmen Sánchez-Sánchez, and Dr. Fernando Meneses-González. In addition to Dr. Miguel Ángel Lezana-Fernández, Mtra. Belinda de la Peña-León, Dr. María Susana González-Velázquez and Mtro. Sandro Mendez-Garcia.
Based on what happened with the nurse, CONAMED claims its role as a guide in the academic training of those who provide social service in their different areas and supports the development of topics of interest to health professionals.
