The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) announced a new measure against corruption. Thanks to an alliance with the government of the state of Colima, health verifiers will now be allowed to use flap cameras on their vests. The purpose is to avoid bad practices and combat corruption in the exercise of health regulation.
This announcement was made known during the signing of the agreement between Cofepris and the Colima State Secretary of Health that launches the National Good Governance Strategy. The event was headed by the head of Cofepris, Alejandro Svarch Pérez, and the entity’s governor, Indira Vizcaíno Silva.
The goals of the new initiative
The strategy aims to promote integrity in the public service at the federal and state levels; encourage the prevention of discretionary acts; strengthen integrity and institutional linkage; periodically monitor and evaluate the strategy; and finally, technologically equip the verifiers to guarantee compliance with health regulations.
“It fills us with pride that Colima, a state of great importance in foreign and national trade, implements video recording processes in verification visits. I recognize the close work with the entity and the relevance of signing this agreement that promotes integrity in the public service and consolidates a fair and transparent Cofepris throughout the national territory”, affirmed Alejandro Svarch.
He thanked the governor that together they managed to health regulation joins the transformation of the stateand as she herself affirms, soon the people of Colima will be able to see results from the sea to the mountains.
Governor Vizcaíno Silva said she felt proud to be part of the great transformative momentum that we are experiencing in Colima and throughout Mexico, for being part of a national project characterized by honesty, teamwork and results:
“If Cofepris was consolidated as a regulatory body that monitors possible health risks, this innovative exercise of incorporating surveillance cameras, which are integrated as a tool for the daily activity of verifiers, positions itself as a vanguard institution in good practices government, particularly transparency and the fight against corruption.
The Sanitary Operation Commissioner, Bertha Alcalde Luján, indicated that with video recording seeks to protect the integrity of specialized personnelor, who on many occasions during the performance of their duty are intimidated and in some cases unfairly accused; Likewise, the regulated parties are given certainty that the verifications will be free of discretionary acts.
For now, This new Cofepris initiative will only be valid in Colima. Although it is not ruled out that it will soon be extended to other entities to prevent illegal activities from occurring during health reviews.
