The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) and the National Water Commission (Conagua) made an important announcement. It is about the realization of 1st National Week against Sanitary Risks. It is scheduled to take place from April 30 to May 6, with activities throughout the country, although the venue will be Acapulco, Guerrero.
Objectives of this initiative
For seven days, the two institutions will carry out health promotion and risk prevention activities. While the motto of this first edition will be: Water with your health, let’s avoid risks!
The purpose is to protect people’s health by sharing information, tools and knowledge at a national level. In this first edition, the guest country will be France through its embassy in Mexico.
The activity derives from the AGREEMENT published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF). There, the head of the Ministry of Health (SSa), Jorge Carlos Alcocer Varela, instituted that the National Week against Sanitary Risks must take place during the first semester of each year. While its objective is to promote the dissemination and training of private and public sectors and the general population to prevent and reduce health risks.
The week’s activities also include the participation of agencies and entities from the three levels of government, as well as civil society organizations (CSOs).
Activities to be carried out
This year, The week will be based in Guerrero because the SSa is located there. Since the end of last year, he made his move as part of the strategy to transfer all federal agencies to entities outside the country’s capital.
The seven themes selected for this 1st National Week against Health Risks are:
- Clean water: prevent health risks by adopting practices for the conscious use of this resource.
- Sanitation: promote daily hygiene actions, as well as treatment and reuse of water.
- Pharmacovigilance: strengthen the role of post-marketing surveillance of medicines and vaccines.
- Smoke-free space: recover and increase spaces free of tobacco smoke and vapers.
- Hygienic handling of food: raise awareness about recommended habits to avoid diseases or infections due to consuming products in poor condition or without having washed with clean water.
- Appropriate use of medicines: raise awareness about the responsible administration and consumption of medical products and the risks of antimicrobial resistance.
- Digitization: promote the digital tools available to streamline health regulation and promote innovation.
During each day, experts from states, institutions and academia, among others, will carry out actions in the territory. Talks, presentations, visits to schools, markets, hospitals and parks are planned. Training will also be offered on chlorination and water management, declarations of smoke-free spaces, and dissemination of best practices for the management of solid waste and food.

As part of the activities, this Saturday, April 30, interested people are invited to participate in the beach mega-clean at 9:00 a.m. The meeting point is on the beach in front of the SSa headquarters with a walk in the direction of Parque Papagayo.
That same Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in this park and ecological reserve, visitors will be able to enjoy a concert by the Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra and a screening of the film Bonjour le monde at the Acapulco Cultural Center.

The talks and events will be broadcast through the social networks of Cofepris, Conagua, Radio and Television of Guerrero (RTG) and the Public Broadcasting System (SPR).
During the week, the France-Mexico Film Series against Sanitary Risks will also take place, which will have two face-to-face venues in Acapulco, broadcast on television through the signals of Canal Once (11.1) and RTG (4.1), and will be available on the FilminLatino platform of the federal Ministry of Culture.
