History of Grocery Dunosusa
Abarrotes Dunosusa is a traditional company in Yucatan, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Chiapas, whose focus is the sale of groceries at low prices, replacement purchases or supplies of food and household consumables.
The company was born in 1969 as a traditional wholesale business with vendor-commissioner routes and distribution, mainly of raw materials for the baking industry. It began operations under the name Suppliera del Panadero, SA de CV, which it maintains to date.
Its founder was Gustavo Vidal Ricalde Durán, a visionary businessman who also created the Super MAZ supermarket chain, with a long commercial tradition in the southeast of the Republic, co-founder of the National Association of Department Stores and Self-Service Stores (ANTAD) to which Dunosusa belongs. since 2005.
After the 1995 crisis, Vidal Ricalde turned the business around: he established a new format of points of sale, aimed at the general public (retail customers) mainly for their grocery needs, under the commercial name of Dunosusa.
At the end of the first decade of the 21st century, Dunosusa had 235 points of sale, now there are 530 located in the states of Yucatán, Campeche, Quintana Roo, Tabasco and Chiapas and a distribution center in the city of Mérida.
The inhabitants of popular areas and distant towns have benefited from the opening of the branches because, in addition to the opportunity to acquire basic necessities at low prices, the arrival of Dunosusa in these areas has been a trigger for the development of the communities.
Dunosusa has its own brand called El Puritano, under which it markets rice, beans, sugar, lentils and chickpeas, all packaged in its distribution center in Mérida. It also sells oil, juices, vinegar, milk formula, honey and wheat flour, among other products.
