The premiere of Super Mario Bros. The Movie It is just around the corner! However, not all fans of the mustachioed plumber are outright enthusiastic. Since the famous Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy) was announced as the official voice of Mario for this tape, the criticisms and reproaches did not wait.
Through social networks, there were those who regretted the decision of Universal, Illumination and Nintendo not to summon Charles Martinet – voice of Mario and Luigi in video games – to play the titular character in the animated film. On the other hand, since then many users already showed little confidence that Pratt would do a decent dubbing job. And with the release of the first previews of Super Mario Bros. The Moviein the fall of last year, various posts on Twitter showed enormous disappointment due to the voice of the Hollywood star, present in those promotional ones.
However, in a recent interview with VarietyChris Pratt expressed his desire that the public give him a chance, that viewers enter the room with an “open mind” and become fond of his voice proposal for the emblematic Mario.
“My hope is that people will come to the film with an open mind and that once they see it, any criticism of Mario’s accent will go away,” the actor said.

Pratt does not deny being surprised by the huge amount of sarcastic and disapproving comments that circulated on social networks as a result of his signing. But he maintains that he worked hard to nail his portrayal of the iconic character.
“To develop the voice, I tried various Italian and New York accents,” he told Variety. “As the directors and I developed the character, we came up with a voice that is different from Charles Martinet’s version of Mario, but also different from my own voice.”
A month ago, precisely the directors of Super Mario Bros. The MovieAaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, insisted that the choice of Chris Pratt had been the right one.
“For us, it made a lot of sense,” Horvath said in a chat with total films (via). “He’s really good at playing a blue-collar hero with a lot of heart. The way he characterizes Mario in our movie, he’s perfect for it.”
Super Marios Bros. The Movie It will arrive in Mexican theaters on April 5, 2023.
Antonio G. Spindola I have very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
