Despite being a box office success for Marvel Studios with a gross of $760 million dollars around the world, critics and the general public were not entirely satisfied with the fourth adventure of the God of Thunder. With criticisms of it for its overly do-it-yourself humor and visual effects that left a lot to be desired, this is one of the third lowest-rated MCU movies with a 63% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Its protagonist, Chris Hemsworth, is also aware of the negativity around Thor: Love and Thunderand finally offers his perspective.
In interview with GQ Magazine, the Australian actor reflected on his time in the MCU and the constant evolution that his character has had throughout the eight films in which he has participated. And it is if there is an Avenger whose presentation undergoes drastic changes from one installment to another, that is Thor.
“I love the experience. I love the fact that I’ve been able to do something quite different [con Thor] throughout the process,” says Hemsworth. “Thor 1 and 2 they were their own stories, Thor 3 and 4 they had a very different feeling… and then even in [las películas de] The Avengers, with Thor Lebowski or Thor Infinity War, due to different directors and I think mainly my own need to do something different. You know, I got sick of the character pretty quickly every couple of years.”

When asked directly about the mixed reception towards his latest foray into the MCU with Thor: Love and Thunder, Chris Hemsworth revealed that some of his biggest critics came from an unlikely place: his children’s friends. They didn’t keep anything.
“It’s a group of eight-year-olds criticizing my movie. ‘We thought it had too much humor. The action was great, but the visual effects weren’t that great.’ I am embarrassed and laugh at the same time”, confessed the actor.
A report from last August even maintains that the director and screenwriter Taika Waititi, who was in charge of the third and fourth films of Thor, would have been left, as a consequence, with no desire to return for a potential fifth installment. What went wrong? The 39-year-old actor thinks they may have brought the formula that was refreshing in Thor: Ragnarok (2017) too far.
“I think we had too much fun. She just got too dumbHemsworth mused. “It is always difficult to be in the center and have a realistic perspective. I love the process, it’s always a journey. But you just don’t know how people are going to respond.”
Currently, Chris is not under contract for any more Marvel movies and wants to continue expanding his horizons with other projects. At the door it has the premieres of rescue mission 2 in the middle of this month, and furious by May 2024. However, he acknowledges that his cycle in the MCU is not over. So it will be a matter of time before we see him once again as the Norse God.
Thor: Love and Thunder is available on Disney Plus.
