Chris Hemsworth seems unsure if he will play Thor again in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), in a possible Thor 5 or in another production.
Thor remains one of the few remaining original Avengers. Most recently, Hemsworth starred in Thor: Love and Thunder in Phase 4, which featured a text screen at the end saying that Thor was coming back.
However, the Australian actor’s future with the MCU may have received a troubling update. In an interview with Total Film Magazine and cited in ScreenRantHemsworth talked about his experience working on Extraction 2 and how he dealt with some of the most challenging stunts of his career.
While talking about the new types of stunts he did in that movie, the actor mentioned how he’d love to integrate it into a Marvel shield, if he ever does one again: “It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I am not exaggerating. At the end of a take, you’re sucking in air like never before, and everyone drops to their knees. But it is much more rewarding. I’d love to take this style and integrate it into a Marvel movie, if I ever make another one.”.
Thor’s goodbye?
While Hemsworth isn’t saying definitively if he’s done playing Thor, he’s also not confirming a return, leaving it only as a potential possibility and raising some questions about when he might return.
Thor: Love and Thunder was a box office success despite lackluster reviews, leaving the door open for the Asgardian Avenger to return. The post-credits scene even brought up the idea of Thor 5 featuring a war with Hercules..
Hemsworth’s comments possibly could indicate that there is no agreement at this time between the actor and Marvel Studios. Though he starred in a fourth Thor movie, he may not be signed on for more, as Marvel has moved away from the big six- and nine-film deals of the studio’s early days.
At this point, instead of starring in Thor 5, Chris Hemsworth may end his time with the MCU in one of the upcoming Avengers movies in Phase 6.
