The origins of the virus covid-19 are still uncertain. The Government of China ruled out that it came from a laboratory in this country. However, a scientist from this nation does not rule out that this hypothesis is true.
“You can always suspect anything. That is science. Don’t rule anything out,” said Professor George Gao, head of China’s Center for Disease Control (CDC), in an interview with the BBCNewsanswering the question of whether the virus could have originated in a laboratory in this country.
The specialist in virology and immunology was part of the team that worked on tracking the origins of the pandemic.
The expert, who is currently vice president of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, explained that the Chinese government activated an investigation at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) to detect the causes of the covid, but that it did not involve the CDC.
He indicated that given the suspicions that the virus originated in a laboratorythe WIV was reviewed twice by field experts, but the entity presumably passed the sanitary standards test.
“I think their conclusion is that they are following all the protocols. They have not found (any) irregularities,” Gao said.
Hypothesis
The first case of contagion SARS-CoV-2 It was in 2019 in Wuhan, China, where in 1956 they founded the Wuhan Institute of Virology. In 2015, the first level 4 biosafety laboratory in the country was opened in this organization, reported the portal of National Library of Medicine.
The aforementioned medium specifies that the coincidence of the origin of the virus with the location of the laboratory, and the fact that they also found infected bats, creates doubts as to what its origin could have been.
Many related that the origin of the pandemic was in the Wuhan Market, where they sell bats for human consumption. If so, the contagion would be by zoonosis. After little more than three years, until now, it is unknown where the beginning was.
Initially, the death rate was very high due to a lack of knowledge about the coronavirus or covid-19. With the passing of time, deaths decreased, since the large number of patients around the world, made it possible to know the clinical pictures to apply the appropriate treatment, including vaccines.
