The Livestock Agricultural Service (SAG) ruled out the alleged presence of killer wasps in Chilean territory after the alarm was raised by a farmer who claimed that he had captured one of these species.
“Regarding the presumed presence of the assassin wasp or Vespa mandarinia in Chile, @sagchile points out that it is NOT about that species but rather Vespa orientalis, native to Asia and southern Europe, recently introduced to Chile and with jacket-like habits yellow ”, they wrote on their Twitter account. It should be noted that in the audiovisual record, the person who captured the species indicated that he would take it to the SAG, precisely in search of answers.
Alarm in the United States
Although the wasp has not reached Chile, it has alarmed the authorities in the United States. In late April, from that country, they reported the appearance of these hornets. Due to their aggressiveness, they have promoted their nickname of “killer wasps”, since they have a deadly poison that could kill human beings. The powerful poison and the giant stinger are long enough to pierce even the beekeeping suits experts wear. This species can decapitate bee colonies, which organize to defend themselves in its presence.
Also another audiovisual record showed how it can kill a mouse that considerably exceeds its size. The bite of this insect has been described as “a hot metal that penetrates the skin.”
